Have You Had Your 5 A Day?

We all know to have our 5 pieces of fruit a day. Of course, vitamins are important. Nutrition is important. So is your book! Try and incorporate 5 things a day that you can do for your book! Here are some suggestions from us!

  • Check your emails

Most of the time, emails are not too dependant on time, but once you reach marketing especially, we could miss out on a very exciting opportunity if you miss an email. For example, radio interviews are usually booked with little notice, and they need to get a booking, so if you don’t give an answer quickly, they will usually book someone else, just to be safe! The same goes for some news stories or book signing events. Just to be safe, check through your emails once a day, you don’t have to reply to any of them necessarily, but if you see an important one, you’ll know to!

  • Watch the news

The news can be a great promotion point. If you’ve written a children’s book about elephants, and it happens to be a national elephant day, or a new baby elephant has been born in a zoo! Or if you’ve written a self-help book to battle depression and the subject of depression is brought up on a talk show, news or it’s a raising awareness day, it’s great to pick up on this!

  • Update your social media

It’s wonderful to start growing an audience on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – but you need to keep them interested. A few posts a day – even if they’re just Retweets, book quotes or a quick update on what is coming up for you is wonderful! Have a look at what the peaks times to post on social media are and tailor your posts to suit the time! Keep an eye out for other peoples posts that may interest your followers that you can share. Pictures that may be of interest or quotes that inspire you!

  • Call/email/write to one contact a day!

To keep things interesting, try and speak to one person a day! You can either email them, write them a letter or give them a quick call. You can choose to speak to a book blogger about a possible review, pop a bookshop a message if they have any spaces you feel could be great for you and them, contact a newspaper or a magazine that potentially could be interested in giving you a right up! Or a new radio station that you’d be perfect for could be the right choice for your day!

  • Come up with one new idea or choice for your book!

Ideas are hard to come by! Even if it’s a bad idea, add a new possibility to a mind map? Then, once you have a few on there, you can start narrowing it down and picking out the ones that may really work for you and your book! A new idea could be the possibility of an audiobook, an interview with a new blog or newspaper, a poster idea, a giveaway, a new website, a wholesaler or just a different way of writing an email!  There are endless possibilities!
