Welcome from the Publicity Team!
Congratulations for completing the production on your book! The writing has been completed; now you’ve got to sell the story… and that’s why we’re here!
The purposes of this article is to inform our authors about our distribution process, what work we do to promote your book and how you can assist in those efforts – as well as answering the regularly asked questions from our incoming authors.
At any point in the process, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the team by emailing publicity@olympiapublishers.com or by calling 020 3719 5833.
I’ve signed everything off; when am I getting a publication date?
Your book is currently with our design team, who are sizing the files and creating marketing materials. Once we have these files back, the Publicity team will do a second check to make sure the book is fit for print. If the files are correct, we will then be in contact with a publication date for you.
What is a provisional publication date?
The publication date is the date your book will go live for general sale. Our Publicity team provide you with a ‘provisional’ date once you reach the publicity process. We do this in case any issues occur prior to the publication date. If such a situation were to arise, our team will decide if these issues can be resolved before the date of the publication. This will be relayed to you immediately, but is unlikely to occur.
How long does the printing process take?
We order books from our printers in an initial print-run before publication. These printed titles are given to our distributors, our wholesalers, are kept in our warehouse and a sample of them are sent to you, the author, as complimentary copies. Any further print-runs of your book will be ordered when our warehouse team review stock levels.
The paperback printers that we use work on a four week lead time. Because of this, we require at least four weeks notice of any books required for events. If an order is placed with a shorter notice, we cannot guarantee that the books will be delivered to you in time for the time of the booked event.
The hardback printing process is slightly different. This process is longer and less predictable, meaning that we will not be able to provide specified ETAs.
What is the size of my book? / Why is my book this size?
The size of your book should be discussed with your production coordinator during the production process. If you do not request a particular size, your coordinator will assign a size based on the printing costs and what they think is best suited to the story. If a size is not decided by the author, our production team has full discretion in this decision.
What is the finish of my book? (gloss or matte)
The finish of your book (gloss or matte) is down to the discretion of the publisher and what we feel will look the best with your cover design.
What price is my book?
The price of your book is decided by our production team and is based on the cost of printing. Various factors make an impact on the final price decision, including the size of the book, the number of pages, how many illustrations are in the manuscript and how many coloured pages are needed.
Where can my book be purchased?
All of the books published by Olympia Publishers are available to purchase from the Olympia website – https://olympiapublishers.com/ – however, your book can also be purchased from several other UK online stores: such as Waterstones, Amazon, Foyles and Blackwells.
If you are an author living outside of the UK, your book will also be listed to your countries’ online stores: such as Barnes & Noble, Booktopia and Exclusive Books.
Why is it not in my local book store?
Your book will be available for stores to purchase from the wholesalers Gardners or Ingram (if living outside of the UK). Stock of your book will not be sent to stores unless ordered. We will send a press release out to stores in your local area to see if they are interested in holding stock of your book or hosting an event for you, but this is down to the store’s discretion and if they decline our offer, stock will not be available in store.
In this scenario, if you would love to see your book stocked in your favourite local bookshop, feel free to go in and personally chat with the staff! Due to the influx of published titles, booksellers have to sift through lots of offers and must be particular about their book orders. Speaking with a bookseller yourself, showing off your work and telling them about it often results in your local bookshop supporting you as a local author.
Why does Amazon state 3-7 months for delivery?
When Amazon runs out of stock of your title, they put a 3-7 month delivery placeholder on the listing, as they cannot guarantee their usual next day delivery times. This is only temporary and once they receive more stock, it should be amended in five to ten working days; however, Amazon delivery dates are not controlled by Olympia Publishers.
When will my eBook go live?
Due to new AI regulations, Amazon only permits us as the publisher to upload three eBooks a day. As you can expect, this has caused a significant backlog as we publish many books a month. We are not able to upload all of our monthly titles to Amazon Kindle prior to publication. We can assure you that there will be a digital version of your book published but it will likely go live after the publication of your paperback book.
Can I have an audiobook?
Olympia Publishers reviews the sales of the book before looking into audiobook options. In most cases, a book will need to have sold 5000 copies to be considered for an audiobook adaptation. This sales threshold will need to be passed before we discuss the production of an audiobook for you. However, we are more than happy to discuss the audio rights to the book with you.
